Buffalo to Philly

After feverishly scarfing down a sweet potato burger, peach pie, and something else so memorable I can't even remember what it was, we made it to the Buffalo airport. Ian had to finish Return of the King so we stood outside security as he read the last ten pages. His hesitation to cross into security could also be due to what he had stashed in his carry-on.
Naturally, I turned around to find Ian standing beside one of those interior design catastrophes- a short metal table with a blue-clad security man pulling everything out of his bag. Ian turned to me and maybe cursed a little. The nice man said he was going to screen the bag again which could only mean they'd found something but didn't know what it was.

"Knives," Ian hissed to me. "I wasn't thinking."

It wasn't knives alone he had sequestered in his innocuous looking pencil case. The security man came back and told him he couldn't bring his two knives and, "pepper spray, this can't go either". Surprisingly, they realized Ian was maybe a little overwhelmed and underprepared so they took him to the counter, scanned his contraband and were very willing to return the knives to our parents who were still waving back at me saying goodbye. They let us go! Ian was disappointed about his knives.

When we sat down we checked our boarding passes and I told him I had the window seat because I had seat F and F is often a window seat on domestic flights. "Oh, no you don't. E comes after F."

We've made it to Philly and he's choking down yellow, greasy food he wished he hadn't bought but refuses to prove my mom right by throwing away food due to his picky palate. Wish us luck!

Quince Picking

This morning my mom and I went out early to pick quince at our secret spot. Did you know Wegmans sells quince in the exotic fruit area? Outrageous. They're local, though unusual, fruit. Quince are shaped similarly to apples but have have a denser texture and are rather sour. A fine fuzz covers the yellow-green flesh that smells...quincy.

In more travel-related news, I've been avoiding Walmart like the plague and have things on the floor to take but that's about it.

100

In honour of the one hundredth post, I did a little remodeling!

Today marks the ten day countdown to September 28 when my nineteen year old brother Ian and I will fly to Europe to commence our trip to Ireland, England, France, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, Morocco, Egypt and New Zealand.

It will span eight months.

Instead of starting a new blog for the trip, this one will be my pride and joy as I chronicle our travels for friends, family and anyone else stopping by to subject themselves to the mercy of my unbearably witty sarcasm.
